:  any of the granular epithelial cells with large acidophilic nuclei occurring at the base of the crypts of Lieberkühn in the small intestine and appendix

Biographical Note for PANETH CELL

Paneth, Josef (1857–1890), Austrian physiologist. A professor of physiology in Vienna, Paneth published a description of the granular cells in the crypts of Lieberkühn in 1888.
